Montag, draußen alles ist still … inside, blinds are rustling, people are peering out, perhaps the ones from that other country which as Anna Funder’s book points out has ceased to exist, a homecountry the tokens of which are passed around markets, in Ostalgie, like the aluminium coins, and in the Zehdenickhaus, the plastic ceiling-linings, in the pattern of pressed tin, that particular thin plastic used to protect model cars, children’s toys, and with with the pattern of wood veneer, covering the actual wood of the house’s construction, and the oversize Schrank and other furniture preserving the Biedermeier style … the Ost that is less shy about its other history,
